Tough Work Week for Lakers’ Vacationing Millionaire

It sure has been a tough work week for the Lakers’ vacationing millionaire. He had to stop laboring on the arduous count of his $23 million season’s salary to play in last Sunday’s game against Indiana, but then resumed his vacation, and count, by sitting out Monday’s trip to play the Trailblazers in Portland. After he had two off days to recoup from those 32 minutes he played Sunday, he again saw playing time on Wednesday, 28-minutes worth, in the team’s blow-out loss to the Clippers. I seem to remember a master plan that it would be back-to-back games that Kobe was to sit out, but as best I remember the Lakers did not play yesterday, so he had yet another off-day yesterday, and presumably caught up on his counting and should have been ready to go tonight, at home, against the far from scary Orlando Magic.

But, alas ticket holders, you will not be seeing the vacationing millionaire tonight. In a release CBS Sports put out a little while ago, they say that the Lakers are calling today a "rest" day for Kobe. So, with another off day tomorrow, assuming he does play Sunday, that would mean that he will have played in exactly one game in seven days. That's a whole lot of rest, and a whole lot of counting time. I'd be a real shame if he ran out of money to count and had to re-negotiate a few more dollars to keep

him busy, when he’s not playing that is.

In more bad news for the Lakers and their remaining fans, it seems that ronnie price has sufficiently recovered from his broken nose to be available to play tonight. That’s two strikes against the Lakers tonight, Kobe out, price in.

But, fans, in Wednesday’s embarrassment at the hands of the Clippers, a monumental event finally occurred, with coach Byron Scott FINALLY remembering that he had another point guard on the team, and actually gave some playing time to Jordan Clarkson. In a better 20 minutes than any Lakers’ point guard has played this season, and likely last season as well, Clarkson wiped off the rust, cob webs, and mold, and hit six of ten shots, scoring 14 points with four boards and two assists in those 20 minutes. For the season, in

his limited action, Clarkson (40.8%) has shot infinitely better, clearly demonstrated by the numbers, than the vacationing millionaire (37.5%), the ex trojan scum n young (38.8%), or the improved but still horrible price (37.4%).

There is no acceptable reason why, on this talent-barren, awful Lakers' team, that Clarkson is not getting regular and significant playing time.

Ryan Kelly also had some good minutes Wednesday, with six rebounds in his 12 minutes, and hitting his only shot attempt. Now that he is in between injuries, he should be playing as well, certainly ahead of the league’s worst defensive player, that trojan jerk who in that same game continued his streak of stinking up the place with another typical four-of-15 shooting.

But, then look who is the head coach. Don’t expect anything that could actually serve to improve the team.
