The Lakers’ Win Over Houston Was Meaningless

All you fans now on the “streaking” LA Lakers’ bandwagon, not so fast! I never thought they would beat Houston on Wednesday night, but then again, no one knew until game time that the laughing man, Deee-Wignt Howard, would run and hide from the media amid new allegations of child abuse, and with no NBA-caliber sub in his stead, a decent team effort by the talentless Lakers was enough to muddle through to a six-point win. But relax, it won’t last, and the Dallas Mavericks will demonstrate that this evening.

Supposedly suffering from a sore knee, Deee-Wight was a last minute scratch against the Lakers Wednesday night, at least as far as the media and fans were concerned. Dee-Wight and the Houston brass probably knew all along but were not about to let on. Howard’s

replacement, someone named Tarik Black scored five points in 35 minutes, and played matador with Lakers' big men, as Carlos Boozer and Jordan Hill had unfettered access to the basket, scoring and rebounding without the presence of Deee-Wight in the way. Black came into the game with 25 MBA points to his name, and he played like it. He did block a shot in his very first game, and he's still looking for number two. he did double his lifetime assist total to two in

Dee-Wight was first investigated for child abuse in Georgia this past summer, but nothing came of it. Now, the investigation, called open and active by Cobb Country investigators, has been reopened due to “new information”. TMZ has reported that the investigation involves allegations that Howard beat his six-year-old son with a belt buckle. Howard has also been under investigation for similar allegations in Florida. This raises the question of whether or not the new Commissioner, Adam Silver, will step in, as he did so quickly in the Donald Sterling episode. Eight way, I would not expect to see Howard laughing his way down any NBA court anytime too soon.

In the game Wednesday, while Jeremy Lin received a nice welcome from Houston fans, his game on the court was another matter. Continuing his disappointing play, Lin managed only three points on one-of-five shooting in 30 minutes. While Kobe had a game-high 29, he did not shoot well, going 10-for-28 and a very poor one-of-seven on three-pointers. A steal and three-point play by Wesley Johnson with 45 seconds to go was the key play down the stretch, turning around a one-point deficit into a two-point lead, that the Lakers were unable to squander.

The Lakers face a hot Dallas team tonight. the Mavs have won five straight, and by an average margin of 21 points. The Lakers have not beaten Dallas in a game since the 2012-2013 season. Neither of those streaks is about to end tonight.
