“Old and Slow Clippers” Nightmare is Over

So, after all the huffing and puffing, the Clippers got the guy they needed, and it will be the “Old and Slow” Nets instead. Plus, the self-anointed Guru of Deee-Wight, Chris Broussard, says the laughing man will never be a Clipper so long as any Buss, any where, is still breathing. All great news!

Doc Rivers coaching and no old men of Boston clogging up the Chris Paul-Blake Griffin lanes, and no Deee-Wight laughing his way down court after missing key free throws, all makes for the basics of a dream Clippers’ team, especially if you add in the rumored

other deal, that one that actually made sense, which would be the trade of Caron Butler and Eric Bledsoe for Arron Afflalo. That makes even more sense now, with Afflalo as the new shooting guard, and Clippers’ draft pick Reggie Bullock eventually (or maybe right away) taking over for Butler as the starting small forward. I’ve made myself clear in the past that it would be a mistake to trade the multi-talented Bledsoe, but this deal is so far better than anything else ever rumored to involved him, that I would not be against it. In Afflalo the Clippers would be gaining another Bruin who, like Matt Barnes, plays stellar defense and can shoot.

Both Afflalo and Bullock are considered quality people with loads of intangibles. These guys at 27 and 22 each could have great presents and futures in LA, far better than the they could EVER have had with a combination of a 37-year-old Garnett, a 36-year-old Paul Pierce, and the young but moribund lump of over rated protoplasm Deee-Wight Howard.

Also, Doc made a top-notch first move by bringing in former Clippers’ head guy Alvin Gentry as “associate head coach”. Apparently, there is the belief that he can draw out the same kind of improvement and consistency from Griffin that he was able to extract from Amar’e Stoudemire when he was the head coach in Phoenix. Stoudemire has not come close to being the same player since, so maybe there is something to the Gentry technique

This LA team is going in the right direction. We’ll have to wait a few more days to see what the future may hold for that “other” local basketball club.
