Mr. Kellerman, There Is No Mystery About the Angels

This morning, New Yorker Max Kellerman, on his KSPN-LA radio show, again exposed his total lack of understanding regarding Los Angeles sports teams, and this time, it was a really basic lack of knowledge and perspective that he exposed.

Max was talking about the underachieving LA Angels, and in discussing how Mike Trout is such an improvement over last year’s center fielder Peter Bourjos, as is Chris Iannetta is over Jeff Mathis who was the regular cacher last season, how Mark Trumbo is having a better year than last, and how much the Luis Pujols acquisition has meant, he said to his radio audience that he could not understand how the Angels are doing so bad this season, when so much was expected of them.

Huh? He doesn’t understand the problem?

Well, remember, this is the guy who before the start of last season said that the Angels best pitcher, their ace, was Dan Haren. Do you know where this is going.

Apparently he still has no understanding of the Angels pitching staff.

What is the reason the Angels are in third place and fighting desperately for a playoff spot? Well, at this time last season, the same Dan Haren was 13-8 with a 3.16 ERA. Today, he is 9-10 with an ERA of 5.32. On September 4 last season, Ervin Santana was 11-8 with a 3.27 ERA. September 4 this year shows him sporting an 8-11 record and an ERA of 5.32. Last year’s staff compiled a 3.57 team ERA. This year, it sits at 4.58, a full run higher than last season.

Mystery? I think not.
